Dr. Byron E. Price, Ph.D., is a professor of public administration at Medgar Evers College, part of the City University of New York in Brooklyn. He previously held the Lillie and Nathan Ackerman Chair of Social Justice at Baruch College, as well as an Endowed Visiting Professor position in the Center on Equality, Pluralism, and Policy. Dr. Price currently serves as the Strategic Diplomatic Officer for Political Cooperation for the African Union African Diaspora Sixth Region High Council at their headquarters in The Hague, Netherlands.
Dr. Price’s dedication to lifelong learning and his global perspective are clearly demonstrated by his extensive travels. He has visited over 130 countries, all 50 U.S. states, and all seven continents, showcasing his commitment to understanding diverse cultures and viewpoints.
His unwavering dedication to Africa’s development is genuinely inspiring. His research concentrates on social impact investment, highlighting the importance of long-term investments in vital economic sectors that foster both economic growth and social well-being.
Dr. Price is the former Global Vice President of the Nekotech Center of Excellence, an organization founded by the late Grammy and Oscar-winning artist Isaac Hayes and Her Excellency Rev. Dr. Ocansey of the Ocansey Royal Family of Ghana. Additionally, he co-convenes the historic Africa-U.S. Presidential Forum on STEM, AI, and MBA initiatives.
Professor Price also served as the former U.S. President of the African Views Organization, a nonprofit international NGO that holds consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
His extensive experience has shaped his worldview. Dr. Price has held numerous leadership positions, including serving as the director of the Barbara Jordan Institute of Policy Research and as an associate professor of political science at the Barbara Jordan-Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. His five years at Rutgers University-Newark in the School of Public Affairs and Administration included roles as assistant professor of public administration and director of the MPA and Executive MPA Programs. He also served as Director of the National Center for Public Performance and as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Public Management and Social Policy.
Before embarking on his academic career, Dr. Price served in the United States Army, where he held positions such as Deputy Commander, Executive Officer, and Training Officer at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, during Operation Desert Storm. He honorably separated in 1991, attaining the rank of Captain. A leading scholar in prison privatization, he authored the book “Merchandizing Prisoners: Who Pays for Prison Privatization”, published by Praeger Publishers in March 2006, and co-edited the three-volume set titled “Prison Privatization: The Many Facets of a Controversial Industry”, released by Praeger Publishers in September 2012.
Dr. Price has enjoyed a distinguished career spanning more than 40 years, holding a variety of positions, including Doctor of Public Policy and Administration, Honorary Ambassador, Strategic Diplomatic Officer for Political Cooperation, Professor, Dean, Director, Captain in the United States Army, Global Advisor, Research Fellow, Author, Lecturer, and Speaker. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Policy and administration from Mississippi State University, an MBA from Oklahoma City University, and both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Public Administration from Texas Southern University. Throughout his career, Dr. Price has focused on public policy, social impact investment, prison privatization, prisoner reentry, mass incarceration, issues of race and gender, social justice, workforce development, and social entrepreneurship.
Professor Price is a highly sought-after and award-winning speaker and expert on implementing ecologically conscious infrastructure and restructuring efforts in Africa. NASDAQ corporations have engaged Dr. Price to evaluate and develop new relationships in Africa.
